WHOIS is a system that lets you look up a domain's registration data: registrar, creation and expiry dates, status and name servers. It's public and maintained by each extension's (TLD) registry.
RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) is the modern successor to WHOIS. It returns data as structured JSON, supports internationalization and access control, and is the standard all registries are adopting. This tool uses RDAP.
Since GDPR came into force, the registrant's personal data (name, email, address) is usually hidden or redacted for privacy. The registrar, dates and technical status are still shown.
They are EPP codes indicating domain locks. For example, clientTransferProhibited prevents transferring it to another registrar without unlocking it first; it's a common protection against domain hijacking.
