Configure DNS on Windows 10/11

Learn how to configure custom DNS servers on Windows 10 and Windows 11. This guide shows you how to change DNS through the graphical interface and the network control panel.

Open Network Settings

Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Change adapter options or press Windows + R, type "ncpa.cpl" and press Enter.

Connection Properties

Right-click on your active connection (WiFi or Ethernet) and select "Properties".

Configure IPv4

Select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and click "Properties".

Enter Custom DNS

Check "Use the following DNS server addresses" and enter: Preferred DNS: 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare), Alternate DNS: 8.8.8.8 (Google)

Additional Tips

  • After changing DNS, run "ipconfig /flushdns" in CMD to clear the cache
  • If using a VPN, you may need to configure DNS within the VPN as well
  • You can set different DNS for WiFi and Ethernet connections
